The Single Leg X-Guard
And one of the most common reactions when you use the leg lock template is your opponent will stand. Standing is a good defense to many leg locks as it makes them much harder to apply and easier to escape their knee line. When your opponent stands, you need to be able to react and continue your attack. This is where the Single Leg X-Guard (or SLX) can come into play. The SLX is a fantastic guard for both Gi and No Gi provided you understand stand how to control the position. We're going to cover the controls and a whole lot more in this plan.
Here’s exactly what we’re going to work. In the first part of this plan, we're going to look at the basic open guard entry to SLX and back sweep. Let's get into the plan SLX Entry Technical Drill #1: Entry to Single Leg X (3 min ea) Specific Training #1: From SLX with Opp Standing (3 min ea).
